MIAMI WATER MAIN SYSTEM
CLIENT: Bruce W. Carter Department of Defense Medical Center
LOCATION: Miami, Florida
Purpose:
Richard sought to strengthen community health and safety by ensuring a reliable, safe water supply for a Miami healthcare facility. This critical infrastructure project was designed to enhance the facility's operations and safeguard patient wellbeing by replacing outdated water systems.
Challenge:
The project involved replacing over 1,150 feet of asbestos water mains installed in 1967. The work required specialized demolition and construction techniques due to the hazardous materials and difficult-to-access piping located in crawl spaces beneath the buildings. The scope also included extensive site work and coordination of utility services, with minimal disruption to the healthcare facility’s daily operations.
Outcome:
Richard successfully replaced the aging water mains, installed new isolation valves, and upgraded the underground infrastructure, ensuring a safe and consistent water supply for the facility. Advanced techniques such as ground-penetrating radar and electromagnetic conductivity were used to evaluate and enhance the existing system. This project reflects Richard’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and safeguarding communities, building solutions that prioritize public health and safety.
